The Story behind the story…

When fishing with friends for three days, off the coast of Montague Island in remote Alaska, a person has time to let their mind wander. During the 6-hour motor back to the docks, the final day, I found myself listening to the song, “Very Special Love,” by Alabama. I began to think about the two people in that song and created a story in my head about them.

The following week I lay awake each night thinking more and more about those two characters. The story grew, and I worried I would soon begin to forget that which I had created in my own head, so I sat down to write.

Each morning, I got out of bed between 3am and 4am to write. Life’s responsibilities forced me to stop at 7am and head for work each day. Three months later I had completed what I felt was a story worth reading.

You may take something different from it, but I believe I created a story about guilt, fear, redemption, acceptance, hope and love.
